CLORAR INGENIERÍA develops technology for chemical and electrochemical processes. Over the years, the company has worked on a wide range of projects for various industries. The following are some of the most notable cases
DEVELOPMENTS
GOLD AND SILVER

Development for the mining industry
We worked on three projects for a major mining company based in the province of Santa Cruz.
Electrowinning (EW) applied to diluted Au and Ag solutions
The goal of this project was to demonstrate whether it was feasible to apply electrowinning technology to low-concentration cyanide solutions of gold and silver, which are traditionally treated using the Merrill-Crowe process.
The project was developed in several stages: first in our laboratory with synthetic solutions, then with real solutions, and later with pilot-scale tests in the plant using in-line process solutions.
At CLORAR INGENIERÍA, we developed all the processes, designed and calculated the equipment, and built and operated the pilot plants.
CIC plant for the recovery of Au and Ag from the tailings dam solution
After many years of mine operation, the concentrations of gold and silver in the tailings dam solution were significant. Although the dam solution was used in the production process, the metals could not be recovered.
CLORAR INGENIERÍA was responsible for laboratory studies, the design, manufacturing, and operation of a pilot plant on-site, and ultimately for the design and construction of the final CIC (Carbon-in-Column) plant.
Optimization of gold and silver mineral leaching processes
We worked on optimizing leaching processes to increase metal recovery. We conducted leaching studies in heaps using different oxygen concentrations and demonstrated that adding pure oxygen to the pulp did not improve recovery. We proposed changes to air injection in the pulp to ensure adequate oxygen availability for chemical reactions.
LITHIUM
At CLORAR INGENIERÍA, we have experience in lithium industry processes.
Metallic lithium production: proprietary development and know-how transfer
We developed a method for producing metallic lithium via electrolysis. We adapted technologies found in literature and conducted experiments on various scales. We worked with samples provided by the client. We manufactured and operated several pilot-scale electrolysis cells. We obtained metallic lithium samples with quality comparable to commercial products. We prepared all the documentation for the conceptual engineering phase.
Electrochemical process for lithium recovery from brines
CLORAR INGENIERÍA
was hired by the country’s largest energy company, which, through its R&D company co-managed with CONICET, had acquired the rights to a patent developed by UBA researchers for an innovative lithium recovery process using an electrochemical method.
We developed all the documentation for the conceptual engineering of the production processes. We pre-dimensioned the production equipment and conducted a technical-economic feasibility study of the operations.

GRAPHENE

CLORAR INGENIERÍA was contracted by YPF TECNOLOGÍA SA (Y-TEC)—a technology company created in 2013 with 51% ownership by YPF SA and 49% by CONICET—to develop and scale up the production of graphene nanosheets using an electrochemical method.
The method was originally developed by Y-TEC researchers. Through our involvement, pilot equipment was designed and built for experimental testing. Some tests were conducted in our laboratories and others at Y-TEC’s facilities.
Next, the client decided to invest in a productive pilot plant designed to produce final products for oil and gas field testing while continuing to gather information and complete the process know-how development.
Finally, we were hired to prepare the full set of documents that make up the conceptual engineering for industrial-scale processes.
